(a bit late in posting I know but I wanted to pay my tribute...)

Gary Gygax, co-creator of the original Dungeons & Dragons game back in 1974 died at 69 in his home on March 4th.

Fantasy buffs and video gamers everywhere owe their existence to this man and JR Tolkien. D&D wasn't just a way for nerds to kill time surrounded by books and other nerds. It was a method of diving into a vast landscape of imagination and wonder, exploring briefly what it was like to be amazing people and do amazing things. All of my love of fantasy, my wild imagination, my love for creating instead of being a simple bystander stems from my experiences in D&D and other similar games. I would not have the drive to create original characters and stories that feel like they live and breathe if I hadn't had the opportunity to roleplay them in the ever-changing and unpredictable world that is paper and pencil gaming.

Through those times I've forged great experiences and friendships with other people who have enjoyed the same things, good times to look back on that are very real even if the stories and worlds we explored were not. And all of those inspirations have been my NUMBER #1 most passionate reason to create art. To bring these creations to life in the minds of others, not just my own. Many other creators, writers and game masters have helped me along that path but I don't know if I'd be on it at all if it weren't for Gary and Dave Arneson's brilliant creation back in 1974.

Gary Gygax is a legend in my book and will remain so until the day I die. I owe him a great deal and today I raise a mead-filled glass in his honor. He will be missed!
