Raccoon Character Design

Description

Woots! Got his design done! <3 Simplistic characters and their simple designs. This was refreshing after working on that Monster of Balackberrid's. XD

Another Unavisi, a Wanderer this time. They are a nomadic tribal offshoot of the more "civilized" race Blackberrid comes from. I realized about hallway through creating him that he's kind of a strange cross between Uncle Iro from Avatar the Lat Airbender and Gibbs, the first mate from Pirates of the Caribbean. XD More personality for Iro and physical stature for Gibbs, plus some totally original stuff too, hehe. X3

Raccoon belongs to me!
The Unavisi Race belongs to *brianne333

Name: Raccoon
Nicknames: Coon, Coonie
Occupation: Shaman and cook. Forager for food and medicinal herbs.
Age: 439
Height: 5‘7”
Build: Stocky and short for Unavisi, Some muscle tone but w/ a bit of tummy-pudge.
Skin: Dusky brown, like pale umber.
Markings: A black swath over the eyes and extending down onto the back and shoulders, creating curvy, consecutive rings. Skin tone darkens towards hands and feet.
Hair: Black top color with a paler brown beneath. Big, fluffy tan eyebrows, sideburns and half beard.
Eyes: Warm, rich brown
Horn: Medium in length, but wide at base, sectioned into 5 flat rings. Tan on the surface with thin dark section between the rings.
Relationship status: Single and looking for a nice lady to spoil, no flashy-exotic beauties required, just heart and soul. ;)

Personality: Despite his gruff and shaggy appearance, Raccoon is an easy going, jovial sort of fellow, content with his place in life. His philosophy has always been to make the best of things in life and enjoy each day as it comes. He has a deep and hearty laugh that rises up from his belly and can be often heard throughout the camp. He is recognized by many due to his outgoing nature and willingness to help others and is a particular favorite among children. He takes an interest in the lives of all his kin, greeting his fellows heartily on a daily basis, asking them about their lives, and also readily introducing himself to new people he meets.

Coon’s also a bit of a philosopher, sharing tidbits of wisdom and proverbs with his companions on a regular basis. He sees himself as a student of life, always gleaning new insights from the world and the people around him, and then passing them on to others. But he is not all seriousness; he has a bit of a playful and mischevious side as well. He's always telling people that a bit of harmless fun every once in a while is good for the soul!

Raccoon has a curious and inquisitive nature, and the traveling life of the Wanderers has suited him well thus far. The recent discovery of Haven and more Unavisi has him thrilled beyond belief. He won’t be satisfied until he’s explored it all, and likely, shook the hand every single Unavisi that lives there. This may get him into trouble on occasion, as he wanders into areas where he shouldn’t be, but his relentless good nature tends to get him out of such sticky situations with little more than a hand slapping. He’s also enjoying exploring all the new foods and recipes Haven has to offer, as well as cooking for Haven’s Unavisi things they’ve never tasted before.

History: Raccoon was raised by two loving parents, his mother a shaman healer and his father a scout and leatherworker. When he was a young adult, he took to joining his father on his scouting forays. They learned quickly that he did not have the skills of a hunter, though his memory of the wilderness and sense of direction were very good. He would have made for a perfect scout, if not for his short attention span and lack of focus. Coon’s insatiable curiosity as a child and young adult also made him a poor scout, though he took very naturally—almost accidentally—to foraging.

The young wanderer also held a fascination for his mother’s work and she apprenticed him for some time. Coon learned everything he could from his mother, father, and the other tribesfolk about botany and herbalisim. When his mother became less mobile he took over a number of the “household” duties, which began his love for cooking.

Occupation: Raccoon does a bit of shamanistic magic, mostly basic herbal healing or cleansing, with the help of the elements or spirits. Though he could be a very proficient shaman like his mother before him, his other loves—mostly food and cooking-- tend to keep him from dedicating himself fully. He is a knowledgeable apothecary and medic however and has an excellent bedside manner, which makes him a favorite for treating basic injuries, particularly with children. He’s also been known to both humbly and joyfully perform midwife duties. Due to his well known good nature, Coon also finds himself often acting as a village counselor. Though not an elder he is wiser than most his age, and his warm personality make him very easy to open up to. People tend to go to him for advice or just if they need a shoulder to cry on, which he gladly provides.

Though Coon does not hunt, he often enjoys forays away from camp to forage for edible food stuffs and herbs, both of medicinal value and for flavor when cooking. He often cooks for the tribe as a whole, or for small groups. Many hunters know they are welcome to bring some choice prize by his tent and expect to share a wonderful meal with that evening. This is often how small dinners turn into large ones, as it’s not uncommon for multiple hunters to do so in a given day. Coon loves food of all types, will eat anything, and thoroughly enjoys the challenge of preparing whatever the hunters bring back. Panthis in particular tends to give him interesting things to work with, though the anaconda ribs turned out better than he expected and he was afraid to ask where she got the basilisk flanks…

Hobbies: Aside from his occupational tasks which he enjoys, Raccoon is also a collector. This started in early childhood and is what fostered his foraging skills. Unique river rocks, feathers, pressed leaves, insect wings, small furs, wood or bone carvings, he enjoys them all. Though a Wanderer’s lifestyle does not lend itself to accumulating much in the way of nick-knacks, Raccoon never ceases to collect them. His collection never grows too large however, as he’s always passing on the older pieces to others, typically children or friends.

Weakness: Coon sometimes spends so much time caring about others that he sometimes forgets to take care of himself, (except for the eating part, that he does religiously!) This lends to his somewhat shabby appearance and tendency to have a cluttered home. It’s long been said by the other Wanderers that he someone should take care of him for a change, though sadly has yet to find a lifemate that suited him. He tries not to let this weigh down his heart however, as he feels there are always people around him to which he can give his affection.
