Dark Matter Takes Matters Into His Own Hands

PHOENIX, AZ June 23 - Early Thursday morning brought a ruckus to downtown Phoenix as a fight and robbery occurred at the crowded night club Evolution. The Evolution is a popular hang out for meta-humans and other empowered beings, the largest of its kind in the Phoenix Metropolis.

The petty thief, one Julio Hernandez, was spotted slipping out the back door of the club during a scuffle that had drawn the attention of the rear door guard and one of the bartenders. The bartender, Brody Tom, had been transitioning excess cash to the safe when he stopped to assist with the fight. Hernandez managed to swipe the zippered envelope of money from the bartender's hands while Tom was distracted and then made his escape out the rear door.

Though the fight was quelled relatively quickly the thief might have gotten away save one individual who saw the robbery occur. Elite Agent Dark Matter, member of the Delta Guardians, was in attendance at the club that night and reportedly slipped out after the thief. Ten minutes later the Phoenix Metro Police received a call to come pick-up Hernandez who had been subdued in a nearby alleyway.

The only eye witness, Sergio Lewis, a night clerk at NewBreed Liquor and Market across the street from Evolution, was clearly disturbed by the scene. "[Dark Matter] never laid a hand on the guy. It's like the darkness, the shadows, just came alive and attacked the kid!" The clerk refused further comment.

The money was later returned to the club, to the relief of bartender Tom who did nothing but sing the teen meta's praises. "He's a godsend to us really. Business is booming because of him. People come just to see him and in general we're safer with him around. We've got adequate security yeah, but having a member of the Elites around is different. The regulars don't screw around; they know this is his turf."

Dark Matter himself was spotted by photographers leaving the night club several hours later in his custom model Corvette ZR1 but declined comment. The police stated Hernandez was also unavailable for comment.

The Delta Guardians, the Elite super group assigned to the greater North American southwest polices that area from their Lighthouse just outside the Phoenix metro area. The group, mostly young metas in their late teens or early twenties, have been battling Phoenix's fluctuating crime rate for two years now.

Though the team has been welcomed by the citizens of Phoenix there is still some uncertainty; the abrasive attitude and foreboding methods used by Agent Dark Matter make him the least loved member of the super group. Some even question the validity of his place among the other heroes of the Delta Guardians. "He's got a record, that I know," said police Chief Freeman earlier this year, "Though what's in it is classified and outside of our jurisdiction now. I don't know what his history is but I don't like it. Still… he's [got] several solo collars to his name now, punks and thugs that a lot of other heroes wouldn't take time to mess with."

Though the quiet and brooding teen Elite has won the hearts of the club goers at the Evolution the rest of the populace remains undecided, even wary of his presence.

Dark Matter is a character from a recently finished super hero game, a shadow manipulator with a less than warm and cheery personality. The setting has a Stormwatch/Xmen feel to it. This is a character piece with a great deal of symbolism, some of which I tried to point out in the flavor news article above. I created this as both a gift for the player and as a portfolio piece.

This took forever but I feel it was completely worth it. Several firsts here, urban, grunge, loose paint and line, mechanicals, crazy perspective. o__o *sweats*

Photo reference used for this, taken by me. It's awesome and TOTALLY professional!!: [link]

That composition really fits the theme of the picture. Good job on the perspective, too. And I must say I quite like the way those shadows are more or less discretely slipping from under his coat.

The portrait of myself captures things perfectly, even down to the car and the club. Good to know that somebody notices what I do for Phoenix. I'm using a part of your work for my icon here. Since it's a picture of me, I don't think there's any issue.

You really outdid yourself on this one. The car is dropdead gorgeous and the atmosphere you pulled off in spades. The lighting is my favorite part.
