Description

Photo Series: Woman, Witch, Warrior

This was a project I did several years ago for my college Intermediate Photography class. The focus was on alternative processes and we were encouraged to experiment. The process to create these was entirely manual. Photos shot by, processed, and printed by my own hand. I used an old Canon AE-1on manual setting, and we rigged the stairwell of my friend’s house with black sheets and got creative with swing arm lamps for the lighting. It –was- an adventure. :)

We used pretty extreme lighting for the shoot, then I exposed the film briefly before processing, (by accident actually, but it turned out better this way!) then I took an exacto knife and piece of steel wool to the negatives to create the scratches. Once printed the photos were ripped around the edges and mounted on black board.

I think they turned out pretty good considering I almost botched the whole thing by dropping my developing canister in the sink!! >.< Many thanks to my good friends Tara and James for modeling and lighting tech. :)

This is the SECOND in the series; follow the [link] to the see the next photo.

intersting body pose. my favorite of the ones. can imagine being in a cave, lit up by a small candle. badass frame (analog made? scratched? i remember doing something like that... burning the photo negative, gives those weird flakes). hah. yumm!
